MHFA Standard

MHFA Standard is a training course ideal for anyone who would like to learn more about adult mental health.

You will learn how to:

  • Recognise the symptoms of mental health problems

  • Provide initial help

  • Guide a person towards appropriate professional help

MHFA Standard course is split up into 4 manageable chunks. These are:

  1. What is mental health?

  2. Suicide

  3. Anxiety and depression

  4. Psychosis

In each section you’ll learn how to:

  • Spot the early signs of a mental health problem

  • Feel confident helping someone experiencing a mental health problem

  • Provide help on a first aid basis

  • Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others

  • Help stop a mental illness from getting worse

  • Help someone recover faster

  • Guide someone towards the right support

  • Reduce the stigma of mental health problems

By enrolling on any of our Mental Health First Aid courses, you will be able to spot the early signs of a mental health problem and feel confident in helping someone experiencing a problem.

MHFA won’t teach you how to be a therapist, but you’ll be able to say you’re a Mental Health First Aider. As a Mental Health First Aider you can prevent someone from hurting themselves, or others, and help someone recover faster by making sure they receive appropriate professional support.

Duration of the course: 12 hours
